First U.S. Website: Documentation of the Early Web at SLAC (1991-1994)
SLAC physicist Paul Kunz brought the brand new "World Wide Web" to SLAC in September 1991 when he returned from a trip to CERN. Kunz, along with Louise Addis and Terry Hung, designed a Web server to deliver easy access to the SLAC Library's internationally popular SPIRES High Energy Physics preprint database. Installation of SLAC's website, the first outside of Europe, was successfully completed on December 12, 1991.
